2004 - Construction begins on community Mikvah, the first north of Boca Raton for hundreds of miles.
2006 - Ribbon cutting opening of the luxurious $600,000 Young Family Mei Menachem Mikvah.
Gleaming and brand new, the Mikvah's elegant, sophisticated design included murals of original French artists as wall tapestries and coverings, bright gold and deep blue mosaic tiles crowned the pool area, high-end spa furnishings and lighting all made the community feel very blessed and lucky.
Hundreds of women lived an impractical reality of driving many hours to visit a Mikvah regularly. For them this was a G-d sent gift. As the local community grew with young families, they were thrilled by this beautiful "perk" in their new community, a necessity in their religious lives. Friends, visitors for Shabbos or Yom Tov no longer had to go without a needed Mikvah on their visits. Even tourists had an address for this aspect of their observant lifestyles.
Most heartwarming were the women, of all ages, who never before experienced their Mitzva of Mikvah. Thanks to its warm, welcoming aura, totally secular women with little to no Judaic exposure were "taking the plunge," pun intended. The Mikvah's beauty was equal if not superior to what any modern day professional woman was accustomed to in such facilities. That, accompanied by the overly gentle, kind and sensitive volunteer Mikvah staff, brought these women in and back again each time more enamored and uplifted then the last.
Many dozens of women had their first experience with a G-dly ritual, of any kind, in this Mikvah. Many, many others had their first ever immersion in a Mikvah thanks to it. And the ever growing number of local community "regulars" never took for granted this gorgeous gift in their own backyard.
When a holy book or religious artifact is worn from use it is often considered a compliment and honor. When a Mikvah, one of the holiest Mitzvot in Jewish family life, becomes worn and unpleasing to use it is considered an offense, not an honor. The Mikvah is to be a top priority of a Jewish community. It must always be meticulously clean and a delight to the visitor's senses.
In its 16th year of operation, Chabad of Greater Boynton's Mikvah is exceedinly proud, and humbled, by the privelege of having hosted thousands of visitors. But, of late, its age and sacred use has begun to show "its wrinkles." Unsightly cracks, big and small, can no longer be ignored.
Florida's storms and winds have taken large chunks out of the Mikvah's roof and building sides. The exterior of the building is in need of reconstruction. Inside, water from a pipe leak seeped into the walls and reached up as far as the ceiling causing mold to be detected. Its remediation was completed but not before whole walls and large pieces of other walls had to be removed.
The Mikvah's once regal walls have fissures caused by the slow "rotting" of this water damage. In and around the copper domed ceiling above the Mikvah pool large cracks are now apparent. The original art murals throughout the building are showing bubbles and holes.
The decision has been made that the Mikvah's restoration to its original beauty or nicer must be made
a top priority. The 2021 Year End community campaign seeks to raise the needed $150,000 to fund this major renovation, remodeling and reconstruction project.
From day one, The Mikvah has always been a focal point and pillar of the community. G-d's prioritizing it above any other Judaic institution speaks volumes about our need to fittingly care, honor and beautify this edifice, considered the most important institution in the Jewish community.
A major partner has visited the site, experienced first-hand our community and bustling campus and
has decided to match every dollar contributed to this effort through the community's 2021 EOY matching campaign. Every dollar donated will be immediately doubled.
Mikvah USA is a charitable foundation based in New York whose grant making focus is the building of new Mikvaos throughout the USA. When their is a "need" for the enhancement of an existing Mikvah, in some special cases they extend grants for same. In our community's case, they truly believe that this grant is a very wise "investment" in their cause.
It is theirs and our fervent hope that this project will significantly upgrade the allure and beauty of our community's Mikvah. Women of all ages and backgrounds will long to visit and Jewish family life will receive a monumental gift of G-dly purity housed in palatial beauty deserved by this sacred community institution.
